Faye Smith grew up in Berlin-Kreuzberg, directly on the western side of the Berlin Wall. After completing an apprenticeship as a dressmaker, she studied Fashion Design in Berlin, and then attended About your Dress’ very own university, the University of Westminster. In 2008 she created her label Fay Alice, which focused on small collections with limited production and one-off pieces, which were being retailed at London boutique, Koh Samui. Fay Alice also presents two seasonal prêt-a-porter collections each year.
Her clothing is feminine but modern; think of Carrie’s ballet dress on the SATC intro, featuring lots of lace, ruffles and pastels, mixed in with sharp tailoring, black straps and cinched waists. Overall her collection gives of a romantic feel with a rock edge, the pieces are gorgeous and girly, but grown up at the same time, suitable for the current transitional weather, and still perfect for spring and summer.
