Another amazing fashion photography exhibition is in town, and it is perfect for losing yourself in on a wet September afternoon. Gimpel Fils are showcasing Corinne Day THE FACE, a collection of photos the self-taught photographer took for the boundary breaking magazine in 1991. The focal point of the exhibition is one of Day’s most famous sitters, Kate Moss, in what are some of her most iconic images to date.
Corinne Day THE FACE is being exhibited at Gimpel Fils from 1st September – 1st October 2011.
Walking to work today I could help but notice that the empty shop next door had big writing in the window. Ok, I got a little excited, I thought we were getting new neighbours, but what I read made me even happier. FLASH SALE! Yes, a massive secret clearance sale for AW10/11 goods from amazing brands including Jaeger, Burberry and Vivienne Westwood (see the flyer for the full list) with 50%-70% off. It will last from 2nd -6th March and take place at 65-67 Monmouth Street in the Seven Dials, Covent Garden.
For those of you who haven’t heard, The Village Green store has finally arrived in Covent Garden, complete with an Upper 5th wall. A few days ago the lovely people working there invited us to the Launch Party, unfortnately I can’t go (exam), but you can!!
The launch is this Wednesday, 24th November, from 6-9pm. You can expect DIY cinema, popcorn, cider and merriment, as well as 20% off all night. Now who said Wednesday’s were boring?
So everybody loves a vintage fashion fair, so how about a Vintage Furniture Flea? Yup, the first ever flea is being held this Sunday 21st November in Bethnal Green’s York Hall, opening from 11:30am – 4:30pm. The mixture of products, sellers and prices will set this event apart from your average vintage fair, as there will be everyone there from first time sellers to established traders, selling furniture and homewares from the late 40’s to late 70’s. With everything from rummage bins to branded furniture, and of course tea, cake and live music, there really will be something for everybody.
For most people, Christmas Shopping is a chore, especially in London, especially in December. So the lovely people in Covent Garden’s Seven Dials are throwing another fab event to help you out, a 20% off shopping evening on Thursday 25th November.
As well as this generous discount on a whole range of clothing, shoes, make-up, gadgets and gifts, many of the stores will also be giving you instore entertainment and special treats. Also, you don’t have to worry if all of the shopping is wearing you out either, as many of the eateries are offering you a discount too.
To top it off, as well as amazing discounts, special treats and entertainment, all in the beautiful (and very christmassy) Covent Garden, Seven Dials staff will also be on the prowl, giving out goodie bags to some lucky shoppers. Just don’t forget to register here first…
When it comes to art, I’ve always been most fond of photographs, however a good drawing can also catch my attention, especially a good fashion illustration. Therefore, I cannot wait to attend Drawing Fashion, an exhibition at the Design Museum, which will feature original illustrations from the collections of Chanel, Dior, Comme des Garçons and Poiret as well as Viktor & Rolf, Lacroix and McQueen.
Alongside these spectacular images will be film-clips, news reels, music and photography, giving you the whole story, and enhancing the illustrations. Also, there will be three events, starting with the Drawing Fashion Debate tonight, Manolo Blahnik in Conversation with Colin McDowell, which has already sold out, and Stephen Jones in Conversation with Colin McDowell on Wednesday 26th January.
Drawing Fashion is open from 3rd November 2010 until 6th March 2011. Tickets to talks and events cost £15 or £7.50 if you are a member.
This post isn’t my usual sort, but I just want to get the word out. I had a wardrobe clearout a few weeks ago and have finally got around to putting things on eBay, there is about 35 items on there at the moment and roughly 20 left to add, which I’m hoping to get done tonight. All starting prices are 99p, it’s mainly high street and some vintage, but I may put a few designer pieces on there tonight if I can bring myself to part from them. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to get bidding…
By now you would have probably heard of Selfridges Shoe Galleries, which will have over 55,000 pairs in stock at one time and 4,000 pairs on display from 150 different brands, including Exclusive to Selfridges shoes. If you haven’t then make sure you have circled the 16th September in your calendar, as this is the grand opening!
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Selfridges want to hear your Shoe Stories, and in return you can win a years supply of shoes. One winner will be selected by the Judges, each Friday for 15 weeks, from the 6th August to the 12th November 2010, so you still have plenty of chances to win. And even if you don’t win, the stories are still lovely and funny to read, the pictures along side them to die for and there is something comforting about knowing that you’re not alone in your shoe addiction.
You may remember a while ago I wrote about a vintage site called Love Miss Daisy, well now they will be selling their gorgeous clothes at an amazing event for people who are fond of vintage, cocktails, good music, Pimms, haberdashery, wine, cupcakes and all things of that sort. Barboot Sale, which is essentially a downright super stylish Car Boot Sale, will be held on 3rd September at The Haberdashery in Crouch End, London from 19:30 – 22:30. Also, if you have anything of this sort that you want to give to a better home, you can set up a stall at the Barboot Sale too, just email firstname.lastname@example.org with a short description of what you would like to sell!
