All of our Lives

Something you will probably come to notice is that About your Dress loves bows very much, and to a slightly lesser extent, things to put around my neck, scarves, pendents etc. So, I was delighted to find All of our Lives, an independent Sydney based designer who makes striking neckties that will brighten up any plain outfit.

Alannah Hill

Alannah Hill’s story is one that could have been picked from an old Hollywood movie. At the age of 16 she left Tasmania for Melbourne with six cases full of costumes, her mother’s wedding ring and $30. Some years later she now runs her own fashion brand, Alannah Hill, which is stocked across Australia and New Zealand, and can be found in boutiques in the UK too.

Her clothing draws inspiration from romance, love, sex, girls crying, New York, Tokyo, travel, extravagant hotel rooms, flower shops, chocolate, solace, loneliness, magazines, fear, music and marvellousness. The seasons follow certain trends, such as bold silhouettes, however Alannah gives each piece her own unmistakable touch. The Spring Summer 09 collection dances between territories of the classic and the shamelessly indulgent, and the results are gorgeously romantic.

TV

About your Dress has been loving the labels coming from Australia, and my latest love is TV from designers Monika Tywanek and Ingrid Verner, and their series of intelligent and quirky collections. TV is now one of the most unique and exciting brands in Australia, which is largely down to their willingness to take risks, Verner says “we like keeping ourselves interested so we try not to get stuck on one thing and repeat it every season.” This season they have played with everything including hem length, colour, shapes and patterns, and there are far too many fabulous pieces to show you them all, so I strongly suggest you check them out. TV is already stocked in the UK at Amélie Boutique, and we predict you will see them everywhere in 2010.

Shakuhachi

Through formal training in fashion, mixed with her own love for art and fashion, and desire to create something original, Jessie White gave us her dynamic label, Shakuhachi. The designs consist of vintage inspired and geometric garments, in fun prints and materials, focusing largely on clever tailoring. Jessie also experiments with pattern, colour and style in her collections, mixing soft lace and pretty florals with studs and block colours.

The Shakuhachi label, like Jessie, is highly creative and the garments that have been produced cover a range of looks, they are feminine but functional, are fun but at the same time maintain a polished aesthetic. Shakuhachi is developing amazingly with each collection, and can now be found across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, USA and the UK.

MINKPINK

Australian based brand MINKPINK, burst onto the Australian fashion scene in 2005, determined to give something new and different. Their influence and inspiration comes from high-end designers, current trends, street styling and vintage pieces, and their main aim is to produce fresh and flattering garments full of signature MINKPINK personality. Each piece is designed with the everyday fashionista in mind, aiming to be fit friendly and able to be combined with an existing wardrobe to create individual style.

Coming from down under, their latest collection is their Summer 09/10, which offers some gorgeous pieces to grab now and stash away for summer, or be ahead of the trend and fit them in with your winter wardrobe. About your Dress is already eyeing up the floral shorts!
